Broadway Jazz At Soulfire

Broadway Jazz

There’s nothing more mesmerizing that watching actors sing and dance as they express themselves on stage or even in films. Dance is a natural form of expression and a very effective one, too. On stage, in musicals, the theater comes alive with each step taken and each note sung. This is the infectious nature of Broadway Jazz.

With a strong technical foundation, jazz dancers can focus on the stylistic and performance aspects of dance. A solid technique is essential for us to be able to do the leaps and turns that thrill and amaze the audience. This means that proper posture is also important, so it is common for many jazz dancers – and many actors on Broadway – to have extensive backgrounds in ballet. However, one of the biggest differences between ballet and jazz is that the first emphasizes the up-beat in music, while the latter emphasizes the down-beat.
Like ballet, central control is crucial in jazz since the body’s center is the focus of all movements. Without this center, we are not able to maintain our balance while doing those pirouettes and leaps that everyone loves to see on stage.

Broadway is known for its lively and energetic musical numbers and competition among dancers can be fierce. However, being on that stage in front of a delighted audience as you bare your soul and express your truest emotions – or at least those of your character – is one of the most invigorating and exciting experiences you can have as a dancer. Every performance is different and every show is unique.

Broadway Jazz lessons are the first step on the path to discovering this compelling and rejuvenating form of dance where passion and self-expression can be seen in every movement that a dancer takes. Pull on your jazz shoes and join us and who knows….one day, we might be cheering you on in the theater as you entertain audiences with your impressive jumps and fluidity of movement onstage.

Soulfire Studios offers children Broadway Jazz classes throughout the week - call us for a class schedule!

The Vegas Hip Hop Dance Trend Continues to Expand Amongst Kids and Adolescents

In the city of Las Vegas different dance genres continue to expand in popularity, one of the most quickly growing trends in the field of dance instruction is Hip-hop. Once considered to be a less disciplined form of dance, contemporary hip-hop has now become an accepted alternative to ballet, tap, or jazz with many parents opting to enroll there kids into Hip-Hop dance curriculums in order to encourage a love of the art form.

Individuals in the field of dance instruction believe that in many ways hip-hop encourages young kids and adolescents who would of normally dismissed the possibility of becoming dancers. “It is a gateway dance genre” Says Dylan Hayward a professional hip-hop instructor in Las Vegas. “Not only is it a creative outlet for high-risk teens but is a great way to get your kids off the couch and participating in something that is much bigger then themselves” He goes on to explain how hip-hop culture has been immensely misunderstood by most parents, “It is extremely positive! It isn’t about sexuality or aggression like some people think, in fact it is the exact opposite hip-hop is about confidence, strength and self-acceptance. Anyone can do hip-hop, you don’t have to be in perfect shape, hip-hop gets you in perfect shape.”

Why Parents Choose Hip-hop

The reason why many kids are more likely to be interested in hip-hop than any other dance form is because it is instructed to music that they know. This is why hip-hop classes continue to become a popular after-school activity and something that every child wants to participate in, it is the “cool dance class”. However, parents are more interested in the education and health benefits of having a child enrolled in a extra curricular activity. They are choosing hip-hop because they don’t have to fight with their kids to get them to go. They love it and can’t wait to practice their routines.

Soulfire Dance Studios For Birthday Parties

Recently we've been asked:

"My little girl is turning six in November, and I want to do something special for her, we are in the middle of renovation so we cannot hold her party at home, do you have any ideas?"

Amusement parks are too expensive, not to mention, Las Vegas doesn't have any. Fast food places and pizza parlors are unhealthy, the typical "child birthday party" isn't what it used to be, and coming up with a fantastic concept for your kid's birthday parties is actually pretty difficult. Every parent wants to treat their little one to an unforgettable experience, but finding something that is on budget and a genuinely "good idea" takes a little bit of imagination. Nowadays with parents being increasingly busy, the extra stress of planning and organizing a birthday only adds to dilemma, there must be a win-win solution that makes your child's day special without driving you crazy at the same time.
